Come Say Hello At The Bushcraft Show 2013

by Paul Kirtley

Bushcraft Show Date Calendar_350Frontier Bushcraft will be at the Bushcraft Show 2013. We'll be there from the beginning on Saturday right to the end on Monday. Come and say hello to me and other members of the team at Stall 11. There will be some bushcraft expedition equipment on display and we'll be happy to talk you through it. Just drop by. We'll also be running a number of cutting tool demonstrations at our stall - check the Bushcraft Show Timetables for more details. Plus there will be the full range of Kirtley Kettles for sale. Away from our stall, I'll be running introductory navigation workshops in the afternoons. These can be booked via the Bushcraft Show's specialist instruction page. I'm among the expert speakers at the show. On Monday at 12:00 I'll be on the main stage giving a talk entitled "The Difference Between Foraging and Living Off The Land". It would be great to see you there. On Saturday evening Ray Goodwin will be on the main stage too, giving a presentation about his many wild canoe adventures around the world. Ray's tales and anecdotes are not to be missed. Last, but certainly not least, on Saturday lunchtime we'll also be collecting our Best In Bushcraft Awards, in which we were voted Best Bushcraft School as well as having the Best Bushcraft Course, Best Bushcraft Online Content and Best Bushcraft Instructor. It will be an honour and a pleasure to receive these awards from John 'Lofty' Wiseman. We're also very much looking forward to catching up with old friends and making new ones over the course of the weekend. Let us know in the comments below if you are planning on being at the show... See you there!

Sorry Paul, but I won’t make it. Looking forward to all the pictures and videos though.

Just as an aside, I was reading on Bushcraft UK about knife laws and the Scouts. I was out in the woods on the Campsie Fells near Glasgow with my Mora on my belt. What would be the consequences if I were stopped by the Police?

Regards.

Shame you won’t be able to make it Scott.

With regards to the knife question, these situations often come down to the discretion of the individual officer and their interpretation of the law.

Unless a knife is folding, non-locking and the blade is less than 3 inches, you have to have reasonable cause for carrying it, regardless of where it is about your person/belongings.

Best,

Paul

Hi Paul,
I was supposed to be coming to the show and Olivia had given our charity a free stand which was fantastic, unfortunately I got injured at the weekend and have to rest up as I have a 1400 mile trek coming up in a months time.
Hope all goes well with you at the show.

I’m hoping to make a flying one-day visit from Gloucestershire. I hope to be able to say “hello” in person at some stage though I have a sneaking suspicion that you’ll be incredibly busy…

Reply

Paul Kirtley

Hi Richard! Hope you make it. I’m busy with Navigation sessions 14:00-16:30 each day but otherwise should be around somewhere…

Hi Paul,

I seem to have a knack of missing these events; truly sorry I can’t be there! However I will (if the beautiful St Georges I foraged last night are ok? Baz has the evidence) be rooting around 57 acres of private woodlands with streams, just a short hop from the North Pembroke shire coast; and all to celebrate entering my 6th decade upon this amazing planet.

I hope the show goes well for you and the team and many congrats on the deserved awards!

Cheers
Adrian

Paul Kirtley

Hi Adrian,

It’s good to hear from you…it’s been a while. Thanks for your kind words re the awards πŸ™‚

Well, foraging around for fungi and other wild goodies is obviously very good for you because you don’t look like you’d be entering your 6th decade!

Have a wonderful time in Pembrokehsire.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul, unfortunately I wont be making it to the bushcraft show this year, but I’ve been practicing everything you taught me … still working on fire by friction although I’m tantalizingly close. I’ve also bought a book on navigation and am planning a trip to Finland in the summer where my mettle will be tested for real. It’s all coming together nicely and I can’t thank you enough for an eye-opening week. Say hello to James and Allison for me and congratulations on the multiple awards, they are richly deserved.
Ciao, Marco

Paul Kirtley

Ciao Marco,

It’s good to hear you’ve been straight out and practicing the things you learned on the Elementary course.

This will be a great set of skills to take with you to Finland. Take care with your navigation there – those forests are large!

I’ll pass your best on to the others. Continue to enjoy the ‘summer’ and your time outdoors. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on in Finland.

Warm regards,

Paul

Yep, the weather today has been ‘interesting’. Rain or shine we’ll be there and stay for the duration. We are outdoors folk after all! πŸ˜‰

See you Saturday.
